Nexuiz on Haiku OS possible?

Postby Dokujisan » Sat Apr 18, 2009 8:57 am

I don't know how I landed on this topic, but I noticed an article that referenced the BeOS operating system and I remember reading about that many years ago. It seemed like an interesting project that got derailed. It had a spin-off called Haiku OS, which has a MIT open source license. I never kept up with the progress of it, so I'm glad that I was reminded.

Here's the Haiku website
http://www.haiku-os.org

So I learned that Haiku supports openGL and also has recently (January, 09) acquired a port of GCC. Some people are working on compiling Firefox and other apps for Haiku. There are some drivers for ATI and Nvidia graphics cards available on a site called BeBits.

There is a Haiku VMware image available.

So I was curious if there are any developers who have wanted to get more familiar with Nexuiz/Darkplaces code (I mean someone other than divVerent, since he's way too busy) who might want to look into porting it to Haiku. I'm sure you would get help from Haiku community developers.

It's obscure enough that I'm sure someone will want to port it just for the leetness gained from it. If it has GCC, will the source build on it? Beyond that there may be epic problems with OpenGL performance so don't expect high details. EeePC settings would sound about right.
