Reading problems? Obviously you have them.

I'll quote myself FYI:

Code: Select all

Now,

Default binds should stay default

The whole point of this thread is to make MORE USEFUL default. When you say 'what goes for alpha does not work for me' -- you compare wrong things (aka your cfg and my cfg). What you should be comparing is the default cfg (with rl on key 9, LOL) and this one.

I think that it's too intense.

Then say it's too intense for you, not completely removing it. Also I might not be that über player nexuiz 1337 master, but I haven't even noticed the recoil until someone mentioned it yesterday.

And I say you should ease on your tone... I'm beginning not to like it. :!:

I like the weapons on the numbers. That's how most games lay out their weapons. I think lots of other people might also like them left where they are.

I always leave the defaults as they are with the exception of moving crouch from SHIFT to CTRL. This is basically the HL layout.

I also don't like the view point changes you proposed as they're too pro-gamer. I don't play games to be good, I play to have fun. We shouldn't be making elitist default changes, people then won't see the game as being fun.

I agree with C.Brutail, I don't like your dictatorial tone of 'why are the defaults so dumb? How I have my setup is better. Let's make mine the default'.

Good ideas gameplaywise, but I think it looks silly to have the projectiles spawn at the center of your view.

OK.... about the aiming.
I don't see how this change ruins the game for newbies.
Plus you have the positive experience of other fun and popular games like Quake, CS, Half-Life, Unreal. In general they don't have the shifted aim point.

As for the key binds. Well I'm not going to push this but RL on 9 and Nex on 7 is not fun.

Look at how quake deals with this. The projectile doesn't spawns at the center.
However you hit the proper location. I might install quake and give you some proof on this but you can just believe me on this one.

Ok, so crouch on CTRL does make sense for you, and easier weapon access doesnt? Also, most of the people like them where they are, because they are too lazy to change. And that's PRECISELY why there must be sensible defaults.

Uhm, not having to stop/uncomfortably stretch your palm to reach key 7/9 for better weapon is now considered pro-gamer ?! Man.... :?

Quake 1: gun is always at center, so no issue
Quake 2: gun fires from muzzle, and hits from muzzle (but the option "center handedness" shoots from eye, and hides the gun model)
Quake 3: gun fires from muzzle, hits from eye (very weird, sometimes it looks like a cheat or a bug because projectile goes through a wall)
Unreal Tournament: gun fires from muzzle, except sniper

I really prefer Nexuiz's way over Q3A's, as it's not lying.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Well make the option client specific and everyone is happy.
Same goes for force player models.

Oh, and the current default binds are because this is standard for FPS games.

In any FPS game, weapons are on the number keys in a row, and walking is WASD, with some function keys around it. If you played one FPS, you can immediately play another then.

Exception is Tribes, which has walking on TGFH.

Using defaults not following that will make many people think the game "does not work"...
