QUAKE III ON MOBILE PHONES, WHY NOT NEXUIZ?

Postby unic_sorin » Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:48 am

Hi!
First, i want to present you the Symbian OS version of Quake III - Arena

check this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUFF3ctw ... ted&fmt=18

This version was ported to Symbian by Olli Hinkka,
game is only compatible with Texas's OMAP 2420 powered handsets,
Nokia N95 8gb, Nokia N82 and Nokia E90.

It uses the integrated accelerometer and also Bluetooth connection
for multiplayer mode. That means, one phone can be set as server
and maximum 10 phones can connect to it simultaneously.
It uses original .pk3 maps.

ImageDOWNLOAD QUAKE III ARENA MOBILE

ImageDOWNLOAD BLUETOOTH HID SUPPORT PLUGIN

ImageDOWNLOAD SYMBIAN PIPS C-RUNTIME LIBRARY

ImageDOWNLOAD SOURCE CODE (RVCT 2.2 required to compile.)

So, i just ask you all, why not a nexuiz for today's mobile phones?
i think this would pretty awesome,
anyway it remains devs decision.

thanks,

Not interested.

But I am interested in getting Nexuiz to work on Open Pandora :) Which maybe happen thanks to DSN. DP needs to be tweaked though (opengl es and arm stuff)

Erm, ipod stuff is a whooooooooooole different thing. And unrelated to supporting mac or not.

And devs would have to buy a SDK, and still, it would violate the GPL.
Meh.

But the other games run fine with decent quality textures on low end hardware, so why not start by optimizing DP to run a lot faster, which I bet it could.

Oh yeah I know, because there is nobody to do it :(

well, the most commonly mobile platforms that you can choose are:

java (worst :P)
Symbian OS
windows mobile
linux mobile
blackberry

if nexuiz supports 3 pc platforms

linux, windows and mac.

why not 3 platforms for mobile version too?
personally i choose symbian, windows mobile and linux..
what do you think?
