Some Feedback on the Weapons

Postby bengreenwood » Sun Aug 02, 2009 11:56 am

Hi,

It's been a while since I've played Nexuiz, due to me being busy with a degree and stuff. Anyway I recently installed it again, and I thought I'd give you some feedback.

Overall, I'd say very good work. The weapons seem a lot more powerful/ impressive now, which I think is important. Both their visuals and sound effects are really cool. Also, I like the way that the characters seem clear and well-defined against the levels.

Here's some feedback specific to the weapons:

1. The rocket launcher is cool, although it could be a little bigger (maybe have that as an option). It just makes it feel more powerful. It's already awesome, but something I thought might be cool would be Syndicate-style rocket trails. You can see what I mean in this video, after 2:30:

2. The nex is a cool gun, but more meaty sound effects/ visual effects would be good. Maybe have a beam that's something like this:

Or this. In this one, the ball of light is at the start of the laser blast. The beam itself blasts out as a thick laser beam, but then becomes narrower as it fades. It looks really powerful in the game.

3. The laser weapon you start with looks ok, but it just doesn't feel all that powerful. I really think it would be cool if you had a photo-torpedo style effect on the projectile. Like this, after 5:35:

I like the kind of flickering effect, with the lines coming out of it.

4. The shotgun is cool. Feels really satisfying to blast people with it. Kinda like the old default shotgun in Quake 1.

5. The crylink gun looks pretty cool, but the purple shot effects just don't seem all that powerful somehow.

Something like the laser burst after 0:40 in this video might be cool:

6. And finally, it'd be class if you could choose to hold the weapons in the centre of the screen, like in Quake 1.

Anyway, thanks for making this awesome game guys. It really kicks ass.

i would rather say rockets are way too big right now, but well... not bad idea, make it so frigging huge that it covers all the screen so the enemy cant see you, finally rl would be useful then :P

I'd love to see that :P

It doesn't want to work on my computer sadly.

g_shootfromcenter 1 or g_shootfromeye 1 :P

Has to be set on the server, though (can be voted for on all ladderservers I know of)
