High speed settings server for testing

Postby merlijn » Fri Aug 28, 2009 8:41 am

The other day LH suggested to try a couple of settings that should improve the gameplay for people who have fairly decent hardware and a proper network connection. I decided setup a server to test his settings and hopefully get some feedback on what is better/worse. The server runs current SVN, which should be playable with either 2.5.1 and 2.5.2-beta due to the compat pack.

These server settings have been applied:
Code: Select all
sys_ticrate 0.01666667
sv_gameplayfix_delayprojectiles 0

For optimal experience, clients SHOULD adjust these settings (these are getting automatically stuffcmd'ed to clients now, so no need to change anything):
Code: Select all
cl_nolerp 1
cl_netfps 60

Due to lack of time I have setup a very basic server, it runs DM with all the maps included in nexuiz and no gameplay mods apart from the ones mentioned above. If there is any settings that you would like me to apply, please post a response.

Anyway, the server is available in the server list as "[NL] High Speed DM" or can be connected to directly using 84.244.158.155:29000 - happy fragging.

stickified

also
Code: Select all
cl_nolerp 1
cl_netfps 60

is no longer needed, the server will do it for you.

so.. ppl with time and 2.5x/svn, pls try this server and give us your thoughts on it.
HOF:
<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
<Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.

Thanks tZork.

LH also suggested that we use g_antilag 0 from now on, because antilag is pretty broken on these settings.

We also experienced that spectating isn't very smooth, but that's due to the cl_nolerp - so not really a bug :).

Nice! They should become defaults on ladder servers once the antilag bug is fixed!

I have also established that laser jumps are largely affected by the server ticrate, by a rough guess I'd say they are 1/4th higher. Same goes for damage done by RL, mortar, electro and others.

Also the timing for laserjumps is slightly different due to sv_gameplayfix_delayprojectiles 0, which causes you to miss a lot of them.

This definitely needs work, but it does seem to be good settings for the future. It would be nice to get more feedback because other things may be off too.

[NL] Nexrun server now also runs 60 fps, with sv_gameplayfix_delayprojectiles 0. Personally I love the rocketlauncher, hagar and mortar like this. :)

divVerent has committed a fix for antilag to svn, which has now been applied on this server. For those of you getting high pings (> 100ms), please report back if you still experience trouble.
