Internal voice-com?

How about an internal voice communication channel feature? Would be REALLY GREAT if one could organize the teams... would make the game more tactical and interesting.

Won't happen anytime soon (there are free codecs for that, but there seems to be no free platform independent voice channel implementation until now so we would have to invent our own protocol for that). Teamspeak for example isn't free...

However, starting from 2.0.1, say_team messages are made a lot more visible than normal messages - they appear in the center of the screen. Hopefully this will help with teamplay... it already proved very useful on maps like tznex03 on the 2.0.1 test server.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

That's exactly the point :-). Or better :-(.

Building a good real-time stream is probably not the easiest thing to implement. Maybe you could use the algos in Ekiga? Or to do it more Linux-like: let the user control Ekiga from inside Nexuiz. Ekiga has a dependency on DBUS, so that sounds pretty much possible to me. Of course, the voice mixing must be done by some server (http://www.asterisk.org/features: conference bridging?) which probably should be run/specified by the one running the nexuiz server.

Ekiga uses SIP and H.323 is therefore already right out... these protocols won't work through NAT without special support on the router.

Of course, Ekiga had to be set up separately.

Not the typical online play but i think the tdm ladder would benefit greatly from such a thing. I hope those teams can use some indepentend software or the team_say escapes for now :)

I'm providing a TeamSpeak voice communication server for this purpose. Its address is "planetnexuiz.de", port is standard, it's not password protected. It is free for all nexuiz players out there.

Hehe. But without integration with Nexuiz it seems impossible to prevent spies :-))
