Nexuiz's video and effects menus need to be revamped for people who don't read the Nexuiz README (who does?) and want to adjust graphical settings. Right now, one could go to the "effects" menu and turn various effects on and off to achieve the desired quality/framerates, but new users many not know what all the effects do and what effect they have on framerate. One could also open the console and type "exec high.cfg", for example, but there's no way of knowing this unless you read the README. (Again, many people don't read it). I suggest that instead of having separate "effects" and "video" menus, they should both be combined in a "graphics" menu. Settings for the video would remain the same, but settings for the effects would consist of four large buttons: "Ultra", "High", "Medium", and "Low". Clicking on Ultra would enable "ultra.cfg", clicking on High would enable "high.cfg", and so on. Underneath the buttons should be a description in text of the type of hardware recommended for each setting. Nearby, there should be an "advanced settings" button that allows the user to turn on or off individual effects. (The advanced settings menu should be similar to the current effects menu). This has been done in many commercial games such as Doom 3, and as far as I know it's very easy to implement. It'll not only make Nexuiz more user-friendly but improve framerates because people can more easily select the appropriate graphics setting.
