Lag issue with long-running server

Postby kyre » Sat Nov 04, 2006 11:01 pm

For some reason the 1on1 servers start lagging when they've been up running for a number of days, getting progressively worse until the nexuiz server process is restarted.

The memory usage is comparable with a freshly-started server, so that pretty much rules out a memory leak. Is there some data structure in the engine thats traversed each frame that keeps growing over time?

As I understand it, the only way it should be an issue is if the map doesn't change over an extended period of time.

Did you try to use "top" to see if CPU load is increasing?
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

For 1on1 servers this is no the case!

Do you mean restarted by you? Or do they crash and get restarted by some script then? If they crash one could try to debug things and maybe find a cause of the ping problems and the crash..
