Penalty Point Expiration System

Postby GreEn`mArine » Fri Mar 23, 2007 6:50 pm

So, this is a vote to get the ladder penalty point discussion (see here) to a final result!

The first step is that you guys select one of the four proposed systems. These systems do use sample values (e.g. '6 months' on the first system), so please aware that you are not choosing these values yet (they are just examples) but only the system. Once the system is chosen there will be A NEW POLL where you can vote for the values themselves.

The systems that were suggested so far are:

  • System 1: Automatically delete a PP once it is older than x months (6 months for example)
  • System 2: Delete a PP after X months (e.g. 4 months) OR also delete it (immediately) if Y matches (e.g. 6) were finished after the PP
  • System 3: Introduce something like "monthmatches", which is the product of played matches after last PP * 'time passed since last PP (in months). To delete a PP the player needs to gain a fixed amount of monthsmatches (e.g. 24). This can be achieved by playing at least one game (because otherwise the equation will always be 0), and e.g. get the PP deleted by playing 1 match * in 24 months or by playing 24 matches * in 1 month or in any other mathematically possible way to get a number >= 24 !
  • System 4: both of these conditions must be fulfulled in order to delete the PP: some months have to pass (e.g. 4 months) AND the player must have played a defined number of consecutive matches without getting a PP (not neccesarily within these 4 months, but before that number of matches wasn't played, the PP won't expire either)

I would vote for a slightly modified version of System 4:
both of these conditions must be fulfilled in order to delete the PP: some months have to pass (e.g. 4 months) AND the player must have played a defined number of matches since he got the last PP. By gaining another PP the "month counter" will be set to 0 again.

btw, I just noticed that I'll have to bring a new database table in (especially for system 3 and 4) so this can work. if I wouldn't this would happen (just an example):

player got PP number 1 in january
player got PP number 2 in august
(for system 3): player played 24 monthmatches since PP number 2, and PP number 2 was deleted. from now on the match where the PP happened appears as one of the "pp-free" matches (because PPs are bound to matches in the DB), and when the script runs again it will delete the first PP too, because the condition was fullfilled.

the questions is: is that ok for you? or do you want that for each PP the "monthmatches" played should be individual ones (and so the same consecutive pp-free played matches cannot be used to delete two different PPs) ? The same goes for system 4 btw.
