Into the vixen

Postby MirceaKitsune » Wed Jun 24, 2009 12:10 pm

I decided to post this map after some thinking, mainly because the gameplay should be good and the map should be a dynamic and nice one to play.

Before anything I should start with a little disclaimer (please read this first). As you probably guessed from the name, this map is a furry map. Not only because it has a screen with furry artwork, but because the action of the map is about being eaten by a giant fox. To describe the map's theme, the action takes place in a large facility studying aliens. From a lab room players can take two jump pads which throw them to a giant vixen that eats them. Inside of her there are 4 floating islands (similar in arrangement to the platforms in Evilspace) placed at a large distance from one another which players can travel to using jump pads (the map's gameplay style is a 'jumppad mania' map).

Anyway - If you believe such a map would in any way offend you, please don't download it. I don't consider this map to be actually offending (it doesn't contain anything nsfw though it does show sexy artwork with furries eating other furries). I posted it since the gameplay should be fun and I'm guessing a map can be shared freely if it isn't something too much. I would be grateful if people could keep from posting hateful comments, since as I said this map isn't here with any harmful intention. If you believe a map where you play in the belly of a vixen is something you would dislike then please don't try it, otherwise feel free to play and post your opinion :)

A few technical details: The map's weakest point appears to be bots and performance. Bots aren't able to navigate correctly and use all jump pads, while adding too many bots appears to heavily decrease performance (not only framerate but the game actually freezes for a few milliseconds, I'm still wondering why). I tried to add many details and effects for realism, like ambiental or triggered voices for the vixen modified from the Pyria sounds.

The map can be downloaded from this link or this one (v1r2). A few screenshots of the map if anyone is curious: Shot 1, Shot 2, Shot 3.

Well I just messed around on it there and I think its quite a cool map, seemed a little small. I don't see why you'd think it'd be offensive in the slightest. I always wanted a map taking place inside a biological entity. One of my assault map ideas was to take place inside a gigantic robot.

My only irk is that you named the pk3 into-the-vixen when the .map file is just called vixen. Please give both the pk3 and the .map the same name.

Good work.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

LMAO!

Loved it! I've never played on a map in any game with such a unique concept as that one.
My will be done.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it :) I was worried it could appear offensive since maps of this type may seem a bit odd, so I wanted to be sure (this is actually something called vore). I didn't know it was important to name the .pk3 as the map, I wanted to keep a small file name but the title a bit longer, maybe I'll change that soon and reupload.

It would help if anyone could find out what it is that causes the low performance when too many players are shooting at the same time. I wasn't able to figure that out yet, might be somehow linked to this issue.

Very nicely done! The jumppads work unexpectedly well as Ronan said on IRC, and the consistency of the skybox is great too, it made everything seem so tiny :p
Meh.

Onto the performance issue, nevermind that. I think it's the model causing it after all (the issue I linked in the last post). This seems to be causing many issues with anything involving interaction with models... its likely an engine issue when something has too many verticles.

Hmm, I vored by a giant vixen, then revel in a typical space-floater Nexuiz match. Wouldn't the poor vixen get chestbursted with all those rockets and stuff? I mean, surely it'd constitute more than a little indigestion?

...that little pool with the health in it, shouldn't that be life-sucking gastric acid?

There is a func_button, if you shoot too much into her tummy she will scream. Its set to take a lot of damage so it won't get annoying when theres too many players missing shots. Given the players and ammo are so small, I guess that can go unnoticed :)

I thought about making that pool a slime pit, but a water area with some powerups seemed better (if I could adjust it to take only a small amount of health I could have done both, but I think that's hard coded).

There could be a trigger_hurt in the water, this is configurable :)
