[Map] Lich

Postby Sepelio » Mon Jun 23, 2008 11:23 pm

Just made this today, I wanted to make a DM map so I did.

Its a fairly small map but I'm quite pleased with it, whether anyone will play it is another question. I'd say its good for 2-4 players for some heavy slugging.

Its fairly dark, but I like it that way. Theres generally enough lighting where it counts though.

Obligatory screenies:

And at last, the download link. Hope this bastard works. Might end up making a larger version of it at some point or even just scale it up slightly.

Enjoy.

I had a quick run and there are a lot of things you should pay more attention to.
The texturing is bad. Don't use bump-maps as textures. That doesn't look good at all (like in your first screen). Also in a lot of places the textures aren't aligned correctly (like on the metal pillars on your 3rd screenshot).
You have no visible light-sources (except for the lava in one room). The light is just coming from nowhere (which is bad and illogical).
About the layout: There are too many too small corridors. There's hardly enough space to fight around. I also had a hard time to orient myself, because most of the corridors look the same (ok... there are different textures, but they're all square tubes). Give different rooms some elements which let the players recognize the room (like different lighting, some unique architectural elements etc.).
This map looks more like you've learned using Radiant with it, so leave it as it is and build another and better map 8)

I suppose, I had tried to use different lighting but it refused to work so I just left it. I'll need to go back and look at another map where it did work. The reason most of my work is sloppy is because I'm really quite a lazy person, hence I hadnt even realised I was using bump map textures >.<

At present I'm working on a ctf map made entirely of triangles/prisms. Theres a story behind that one... I'll put a bit more effort in this time anyway.

For the love of Nexuiz, please tell me you're not making Sierpinski 2.

NO... oh Nexuiz no. No.

The story goes, I was stoned in a tent at a festival and I started seeing triangles everywhere. There were at least 11 if I remember correctly (which I dont).

Sadly its not going to be a trippy map though. Mostly because I'm useless at making textures to my knowledge...

Is this considered a final version or will there be revisions?

No revisions. As suggested I'll just make new things. Actually it would probably worth it just to remove it from any servers, then I can use the name for a better map.
