Newest Map & Sound-Pack Release

Postby Tenshihan » Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:35 am

Hi guys, some of you know I work on sounds for Nexuiz, ...well I've been working with a fellow mapper and we JUST made this map (Orpheus.pk3) with my custom ambient sound included.

* Default Low-gravity, FootSteps and Hook enabled.

* Optimized for High-Frame-rate.

* 6 spawn-points (Best suited for only 6 players).

* Kill triggers on all 6 skybox surfaces prevent N00B players from using the Hook to hang and shoot like cowards. ;)

* Full bot waypoints.

* All weapons except Hagar and Mortar.

* Plenty of Health & Armor pick-ups (see photos)

* GameTypes: DM, TDM, LMS, CTF.

* Orpheus.pk3 is OUR FIRST MAP (Please be kind when reviewing)

My newest soundpack is also with this link, get BOTH the new map and the Soundpack here;

needs more screenshots. ;)

looks very nice Tenshihan, with the whole map converging on that crossroad it could have some very interesting gameplay.

Haven't tried it out yet, but your .pk3 structure is incorrect. Put the .mapinfo and .waypoint files in the /maps directory (with your .bsp). Also, get rid of the files:

orpheus.autosave.map
orpheus.bak
orpheus.prt
orpheus.srf

They don't need to be in there.

Have not yet played it, so i can't say much about game play except that i think it might be a bit too simplistic but ok. And it seems its quite possible to laser jump along to skip the narrow path in the middle.
The maps looks quite fine from a aesthetic point of view.

The gradient of the lighting looks very cool
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

I have to try this map, looks really fun actually. I agree with the gradient of the lighting, very nice.

EDIT: Well tried it now for a few min alone. I didn't see any flags to capture so I suppose it's not a CTF map, the colors fooled me :p But I suppose it's ok then, as if it would be a CTF then it would be way to easy to capture the flag as you almost can jump to the other side because of the low gravity. At least with one laser shot you can.
As a deathmatch map I believe i could be fun. But for that I'd need to play with actual platers and not alone :P

Did you try changing the Game-Type to CTF?

Hi again, ai,

The Flags are in top of the Towers when you select to play as CTF, (as opposed to the default 'Deathmatch' when you first boot-up Nexuiz), make sure you select the game-type first. ;)

The map is set for the following game-types: DM, TDM, LMS, and CTF.

I chose the Low-Gravity so that it will provide a challenge to those who think it's easy to just go back and forth from Flag-to-Flag when they're a floating target in the air.

Thanks about the lighting! Good to hear from you my friend!

PS: Try it with some 'advanced bots' (or above) in the meantime, they jump, dodge and strafe really well on this map and they go for all the items (especially the flag) as well!

zuriastrad: Yes my friend, the Crossroad DOES provide some freaky gameplay - especially when you are playing against aggressive players!

<<DJ>>: Thanks DJ!

torus: Thank you for the advice, I will fix that ASAP!

esteel: The simple-design is on purpose for two reasons:
1) High-Framerate (The map is fully optimized and every surface is caulked properly) and 2) To lure unsuspecting players into the air, where the low-gravity forces a slower-drop - thus making them great targets for the Nex.

Sepelio: Thanks my friend!

I hope you all enjoy the Ambient-Sound as well, I worked pretty hard to make it sound like the player is out in deep-space. (Yes, I know that there is no sound in REAL space guys, ...I just wanted that VAST empty hollow sound that seems to feel like an unforgiving lonliness in the same way that films depict sound in space.)

The ambient sound is perfect, and if it where used in a different environment, like close corridors, dark places and a compelling story it would even be kinda scary with this sound playing :P It definitely, though, give you a feeling of loneliness.
