Well, personally I don't care, and I bet the author does not care either. Just try to contact him peacefully now. If he tells you to remove the map, do it (and then I'll ask him about the original port again). If he is fine, perfect, but then post it here too so the server admins know.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again
You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Well divVerent said that the map was ported from Quake 3. You should go look up some of the quake related sites like planet quake/polycount etc. although I think polycount was more for models if I remember correctly...
Often the mappers email contact is included on the page for the map or the permissions are.
