[Maps] Cleft Village

Postby sev » Tue Oct 21, 2008 12:04 am

Thanks go to all the beta testers who gave me feedback, and of course to divVerent for NetRadiant.

As Clueless Newbie suggested I created more than 1 map. The Cleft Village project now includes 1 main map, and 4 smaller sub maps which consist of parts of the main map.

I changed a lot since beta 1 (basically everything, but it's not always obvious ;)), put in ambient sounds and some more details (and a "secret" cave), all the files are smaller, the performance should be even better, it is much brighter, and to get the best out of the great new radar feature I put in some extra effort and created my own radar images.

Happy fragging.

Seems pretty good. I wonder why you replaced the wall hieroglyphs with low-res ones though :P.

To decrease the density of the paintings I created 2048x1024 textures with the density halved, but this would have been way to big (file size), so I scaled it to 1024x1024 and streched it again on the models. This is also because I used 2 different colour versions (red and blue), and there was no real point in putting an extra megabyte worth of jpg's into the pk3.
BUT
I now use tga's for the glowmaps, so it should look even better than before, despite the lower resolution.

So... I was looking into remixing these for the mapping contest but much to my disappointment, the wooden frames of the pathways are on solid model. I was hoping to add angled ramps because as I see it, these maps aren't taking advantage of this. There are two distinct levels, top and bottom. No jumppads, no ramps only a ladder.

Ramps would be a fun and beautiful way to gain speed. I also realized when opening these maps that you are a very advanced at mapping :-P. At least far beyond me! This would probably be too much work for me to remix but I'd like you to consider these words about ramps and jumppads.

Also, make the frames solid ;o)

Cheers
