Is this checkerboard thing the notexture, or a texture by our dear friend? 
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again
You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

that texture is something i chose, it was made bu evillair, i belive his first name is allistair or something. That checkerboard texture ships with Nexuiz, and hey i kinda like it.
next map will have a lot of custom textures though, so enjoy evil textures while the gettings hot
