Probably not ;) I am aware of problems with the lighting.. It definitely lacks style in many places and basically is very plain at the moment.. Please shoot. Even a very short list of problems without deeper explanation would be cool, just so that I'm aware of the terms and can google my way to resolve them...

What I'd definately do: leave this map for now, start mapping some smaller ones, learning the basics (and _proper packaging_), and after that, continue mapping this one. :)

Ok, about the proper packaging: I read some posts here and some tutorials. I don't quite understand what's missing/wrong..

Could you elaborate on this? I am not positive that i understood what misc_laser does. And IIRC dm-deck16][ had two rocket launchers. One at the bottom before the teleport and one in the room alongside the main room.



Look it up. It makes a laser.

In the original deck 16, where the teleporter is, was a death beam.

Could do that, especially as this map is wasting a good map name...

a map called 'deckdich' should have the 'Tischlein deck dich' theme, like, a miniman-style map with a table and lots of stuff to eat on it.

But what once has been posted, cannot be erased. Some people already have your map on their mirror, or in dlcache.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

In an attempt to try to sound like a know it all I will share this information about the Deck maps:

The original Deck 16 in Unreal (NOT UT) had an electrical "death" beam and an eightball gun where the teleporter was. In Unreal Tournament The map was retextured and the beam was replaced with a teleporter that led to the spot above the elevator which is where a redeemer spawned at and the map was renamed Deck 16 ][. In UT2K4 (the most nerfed one in the series) Deck 17 was basically Deck16 ][ except their was lava instead of sludge and their was a hallway added that connected the (one of the) flak cannon's spawn location to the ASMD Shock Rifle one. One interesting thing about the UT2k4 version is that Deck 16 can be seen closed off at the ASMD location and most of that map's geometry is present as well if you fly a camera around through it (though it would be tough to see everything since the lights are dead). The UT3 Version of it was almost the same as the 2K4 version except the ramps were closer to that of the Unreal/UT99 versions, there was sludge, and the setting was a bit different.

Heh, but maybe we can move the thread to some obscure place :) Well, anyways.. I agree about the wasted name.. Too bad. But following your logic: Nothing can be done about it...

You could return to this map later on, increasing its version number so it overrides it. It could be a patched up version of this map or a completely different map altogether. There was already released a very good version of Deck16 this week by another mapper, so you could take the opportunity to remix this one to look and play different.

Well, i am aware of this much better deck16 port :) So i would like to bury this one and concentrate on my adapted version minideck
