[MAP x2] Box Gardens + Box Flip (CTF / DOM / ONS)

Essentially Blockscape + Rocky Hills. Turn off the reflections if the FPS gets too low.

Map is here:

If there's any interest / need, I could make a "stripped" version of the map — no trees, water, weeds, and other stuff that chokes the FPS.

This is Box Gardens flipped on it's head and scaled down height-wise. Probably a good map for players who enjoy sniping. Not so good for anybody else... ;)

It turned out nice! Glad you decided to follow the idea through!

Just played around on it, I really like the style. Minimalism + nature. The water does cost a fair bit of FPS but I just turned it off. Looking forward to seeing how it plays.

Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

Just played BoxFlip on HOCTF server

Overwhelming consensus: It is ruined by new weapons

It's also a bit too bright.

Otherwise, it's an interesting map. At first glance, it seems like a completely flat map (which would be horrible). However, it's not quite as exposed as one might think. There are different levels and edges to allow getting some cover to cross the map.

I tested Box Gardens, there is a missing textures or shader.
maps/BoxGardens.bsp: could not load texture "textures/rockyhills/bark"

I suppose it the one from the tree models :

The map is overbright with bloom or hdr enabled, but it's more a problem from the engine default settings I suppose. And your relief mapping greenground is looking noisy, but nobody play with it enabled anyway. :P
As usual, It's a nice snipe land, I'm looking forward to frag you there.

That was a complaint I was not expecting. In what way are the new weapons messing up the gameplay? I kinda like the weapons myself.

I might be wrong, but I think the new weapons can be replaced in the server settings.

It's also a bit too bright.

Turn off bloom (or the equivalent). It tends to mess up the lighting when there are bright surfaces. Screws up skyboxes too.

Otherwise, it's an interesting map. At first glance, it seems like a completely flat map (which would be horrible). However, it's not quite as exposed as one might think. There are different levels and edges to allow getting some cover to cross the map.

Thanks. B)

BTW: I was thinking about using only sniper weapons on the map (nex & rifle). Wonder whether I should have gone through with that?

Crap. I would make a stupid mistake like that. I'll upload a new bundle of the map later today with the missing texture included. And yes — it's from the tree models.

The map is overbright with bloom or hdr enabled, but it's more a problem from the engine default settings I suppose. And your relief mapping greenground is looking noisy, but nobody play with it enabled anyway. :P

I haven't even checked to see what it looks like with relief mapping on.

Later today, maybe. ;)

I've uploaded a new .pk3. Same link as above. I didn't bother making it a v1.1 because it's just a matter of two missing textures (bark + bump map). Server hosts might want to get the new version.

Wooooot! These are AWESOME! Love the big stairs, you don't get stuck on them as often as on the smaller ones. Without the laser this ought to be excellent
