You want industrial?

Power stations are good for interior industrial settings:

Finally, check these fermentation bioreactors:

My exams finished a couple hours ago so it is time for this to get started. :D
I think it's kinda boring myself but i'll probably go with the studio, mainly because there are multiple clear photos.
I'm really tempted by the bioreactors because i'd just love to frag there though. It depends on how i feel tomorrow.

FEAR style

Postby Eli » Mon Dec 25, 2006 4:29 am

To make a real-world type level actually work in DP it might be best to take some pointers from F.E.A.R.'s style of level design. That game is very realistic but stays away from a great amount of small detail. It focuses on industrial and indoor office areas and puts lots of effort into the textures themselves instead of making a ton of models to add to detail. This technique both saves time for designers and saves system requirements.

If that saves system requirements, then I'd hate to see FEAR's system requirements without it!

An update..

Postby ihsan » Sun Dec 31, 2006 6:34 am

I guess I should post an update on this so here goes:
I've found that you really need lots of pictures of the area for this kind of work and you have to custom make almost all of your textures if you want a good replica.
I'm gonna need to do some real-life spot I can walk around in and photograph if i'm going to get anything like a perfect match.
As a more fun alternative I began experimenting with building areas from my DVD's. I had a good look at Alien 1 and 2 which is certainly where lots of FPS get inspiration. I'll see how it goes.

I have a bit of time on my hands these days so I was able to do custom textures, bumps and glosses. I made a box to test them out in:

Anyways here's a screenshot.
