Well, i was looking at the art for the imperial guard in warhammer 40000 when i was creating this character. I don't know too much about the game but i do like some of the artwork that surrounds it. Here's some images i found. This is the direction that I wanted to take him.

I really don't know if I can remake all of the models in nexuiz, but i would like to remake a reasonable portion of them. I would like there to be enough new models for people to choose from. It would also be great if I can get some help, if anyone is good at texturing or modeling. I am a bit foreign to rigging game models. I've done rigs but not for games, i'd imagine it would be a simple rig. After I finish the marine I wanted to do Nexus, he seems like a cool character that people like to play as.

Well, i was looking at the art for the imperial guard in warhammer 40000 when i was creating this character.

are you reading in my mind ? :)
i had exactly same idea to make human team inspired by wh40k or starcraft
of course models cant be exactly the same or they can shut down nexuiz because of that

let me explain why i said "human team", when we thought that we want to redo all player models i came with idea to make teams of models, like team of humans, team of aliens, team of robots etc. each team would have around 4 different models, normal version, heavy armored version, female version, and maybe some light version, each team will be modeled by one artist. thanks to this, whole models would be more coherent even if modelers will have different style, plus it will be great for making class based mods and it wont have any impact on deathmatch

model is looking great so far

but keep in mind that in nexuiz 3.0 models will be divided into 3 parts, head, torso and legs ( like in q3 ), so if you want to make 3.0 ready model then hide his neck like on the concept

After I finish the marine I wanted to do Nexus, he seems like a cool character that people like to play as.

space marine would own nexus :)

No I am not dead. I have been working on the marine model. He is now segmented into three parts (head, torso, legs). I was thinking that it would be awesome if his head can splode so i made yummy severedness under his head. I am a bit ignorant of how the game makes your character the color you choose in the options. I assume that the game simply adjusts the RGB levels in the texture or are there separate textures. Another question, what should be the texture resolution on the models b/c i like this resolution.

This is a work in progress so please forgive the crapiness of the texturing. I know that the shoulder armor needs some work. I just want your opinion on the direction of the model.

Yes, there are 2 additional grayscale textures (_pants & _shirt). Everything that's not black in these textures will be tinted with the color choosen in the menu.

In the topmost picture of those three, his arms look way to big. If you would have such big arms then the biceps and triceps would be much bigger too. IMO either make the biceps etc. bigger or the arm where it bends smaller. I'd say a little of both, make his biceps little bigger (along with his entire arm to match the shoulders) and then make the other part of the arm smaller. And if I see right on the second pic you've made his muscles the wrong way :P If you could take a top view of one arm to see how it looks, I might be wrong cause of the view of the second pic.
And the knee's seem to be too high up, he looks like he almost doesn't have any thighs (if you compare to where the crotch is). Would look weird in an animation.

But overall a great model.

Here a link for you as reference for arms:

Actually I am finished with the texturing. And honestly I don't want to rig him.
I would rather model and texture. But if I absolutely must rig him then I guess I will :(

BTW if there are any objections on either the texture, model, character, etc. Tell me
and I will make the changes.

Very nice!

His armor vest is awsome, and very nexuiz like.

Several suggestions:

    • Give him a right pupil. The white eye doesnt add anything imo, and is just distracting.
    • Give him a helmet: or even a cap or some sort. I would never go into battle bare-headed, even if it doesnt add any protection. :P

I'd add a helm too (Quake1 style? ;) )
And if you do, make some more skins: one with a clear face (good yes), a battle hardened one, black skinned, chinese, tattoed etc.
