New member and lots of questions

Hey everyone, I just discovered this wonderful project Nexiuz about 2 days ago and my first impulse was to start mapping for it. But im getting ahead of myself. First off im on a MacBook, and it runs the game beautifuly. Second of all, i have done quite a few maps for Half-Life and the expansions of HL.
My questions are that of a Noob, but better to ask now. I have spent countless hours reading over this forum and searching the internet and so far this is what i have come up with. (please feel free to correct me): This game is based on the quake III arena engine (or builder if there is one) And to make maps i need a Quake map editor (although i have yet to find a link on the internet to one). Next, i have to instal the radiant pack which will alow me to use the entities that are in Nexiuz. And finally i have to configure the builder with tools.
Now this is what i have put together from this and other forums. My questions are:
1)What map editor do i need, and where on earth can i find it?
2) Will it run on my mac, or do i have to break out my old door stop "gateway"?
3) Is the Radiant package only in MSI (or ISM, i cant remember) Format, and will windows XP open it

Any and all help is GREATLY appriciated and many thanks in advance for such a wonderful comunity and project.

well almost...

the engine used is darkplaces, with is basen on the Quake (1) engine. However its capable of runnin gmuch more advanced features and maps than the original Q engine, so quake 3 maps and effects can be used.

As tChr already mentioned, the engine is based on quake 1, but it supports Quake 1, Quake 3 and Half-Life (1) map formats. So you could drop in maps for any of those games (or mods based on them) and they will work (apart from missing textures...). However quake 3 format is preferred, since it's offering the most advanced features.

GtkRadiant. Windows builds and sources are available on http://qeradiant.com

2) Will it run on my mac, or do i have to break out my old door stop "gateway"?

Yes, it will run on mac, but i have no idea where to get radiant for mac. You either need to compile it yourself or wait for one the mac mappers here to respond...

3) Is the Radiant package only in MSI (or ISM, i cant remember) Format, and will windows XP open it

yes

Heres what i have done

Postby Ronin » Sat Jun 23, 2007 6:35 pm

Ok, I installed x11, so far thats fine, i have unzipped and coppied all of the data from data20070531, into my baseq3 folder. Now, my baseq3 folder is in my nexuiz folder and im not sure if that is going to cause issues. I have yet to download the entities for Nexuiz, mainly b/c i get an icecream headache everytime i look at it. I am running a macbook and noticed that when i run 1.5 i get a runtime error and it says PPC, and i was wondering if it is even written for the intel based macs. Any and all help would be greatly appriacted !
