About video and sound capture

Postby YourOwnDumbSelf » Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:54 am

Hi!

I'm able to capture video but when i activate sound capture my computer gets really slow and after some seconds i get a message saying: "your system is too slow for this kind of capturing".
So how much one needs machine power to capture sound? Is it possible to capture sound separately?

Hardware:
- Gigabyte K8NS Pro
- AMD64 3000+
- 1 GB 400Mhz DDR2

I have the same problem, and I have even more powerful hardware, so I guess your options are:

Lower your resoulytion when capturing.
Capture to a faster format.
Lower the effects when capturing.

Possible tricks to get better video:

Capture at half speed, and speedup in the video editor. When capturing my fraperate drops to < 20.

To record sound separatly you could simply use an external recorder program and click record in it :)

There is a way to make dp record sound directly to disk, but iirc its very slow.

By default the variable scr_screenshot_jpeg is set to 1 to make the engine save .jpg screenshots. But the video capturing then also saves jpegs and that might be too slow.
If you set the variable to 0 it saves .tga files, might work better.

For me it worked best to save as yv12 video file, but that reuired some hands-on-assistance to convert into a format that could be used :)
