Fog and worldspawn

Postby Clueless Newbie » Mon Jul 23, 2007 8:45 am

From an earlier post on this forum, fog should be placed not in the cfg file, but in the worldspawn

How does one do that? Is the "worldspawn" a text file like the cfg or is it just a random brush?

It's an entity, I think.

Ok.. but how do I do anything with it? It apears on the entity list, but Radiant won't let me create a "worldspawn" entty.

That's because there already is one. I'm not a mapper, but it should be the first thing radiant creates when you create a new map. Every brush belongs to worldspawn, so to edit it, open the entity inspector and select an arbitrary brush.

That worked. Thanks.

However, I noticed that the fog also blocks out the sky/skybox. Is there any way to prevent the fog from doing this? I don't want a thick fog that obscures parts of the map - just a little haze for the long views.

World fog will always hide the skybox, simplified the sky is drawn at infinite distance so the fog will alwys be opace there, nomatter how thin it is. Unfortunatly dp only supports world fog and not fog volumes like some other games have.

<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along

Ah, that's too bad. A thin haze of fog plus a visible landscape/skybox looks really great - if done right.

Oh well. Now I know how to do fog in levels that don't have visible skies.

Another thing i noticed about skyboxes is you can only have 1 per level. Maybe someone with engine knowledge can confirm this for me.
