Bad Brush

Postby TK471 » Tue Aug 14, 2007 5:35 pm

I've got a bad brush:

map tk471dm1
Collision_ValidateBrush: brush with no points!
Collision_ValidateBrush: all points lie on all planes (degenerate, no brush volu
me!)
3 unnamed

-1.000000 0.000000 0.000000 203.000000
1.000000 0.000000 0.000000 -202.937500
0.000000 -1.000000 0.000000 -132.312027
0.000000 1.000000 0.000000 135.186813
0.000000 0.000000 -1.000000 -405.909271
0.000000 0.000000 1.000000 408.795471
0.000000 -0.705528 -0.708682 -381.043671
0.003873 -0.708677 0.705522 191.855133
0.000000 0.705528 0.708682 385.043640
0.704689 0.502822 -0.500584 -279.694305

I take those are coordinates I can use to locate. The map loads and plays fine, but I want to make it clean and with no errors. Any tips for items like this? Thank you.

Actually, these aren't the coordinates, but plane equations of the form Ax + By + Cz = D. The first six however are simpler. Look near -203, 132, 405. The brush should be very thin, as the x planes are really close together.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I tried bobtoolz, but it didn't seem to do it, so I just looked really really close, and there they were, these tiny skinny near invisible brushes (well, there was one that was most likely the culptrit, and some other very small brushes around that, leftovers from an experiment in the map that didn't clean up right). I couldn't even see them to select them in the preview window, so I isolated them in the graph window, and then drew a brush over them, and used csg subtract.... and now, no more bad brushes!

Now I just have to finish the map, lol! It's gretting really close, I'm able to play it with two bots right now decently, but I need to get it up so real people can try it out, and get some feedback.

bobtoolz, that seems to work when I select brushes, I thought it worked on the entire map, doesn't seem to work that way.
