Some Question about Sound in Maps ...

Postby Doc-Pyton » Thu Sep 06, 2007 12:30 pm

I m workin on some new map concept ... that map is nearly finished now ... My Problem here is that i want to make it a bit more authentic with sound's that are played in a small area ... Like the sound of some burning fire that will be only in close range to a fire ...

I tryd to use the "target_speaker" entity ... than i placed the noisekey :
noise sound/docs_deep_drill/fireloop.ogg ...

In The turorials for quake thats it ... this thing should make sound now ... with the "looped ON" Flag it should just play all the time ... but this wont work ...
Second i tryd to place a "trigger_multible" over my Falling-Deadzones ...
This trigger targeted to some "target_speaker" entity that i called "an_botlike" ... i used the path of that announcer voice but this didn work too ...
The pathes of that files should work ... i tested it ingame with the "play" command ... and it was workin ...

My Questions are now ... how to use this entity's ... and what options do i have to set the radius it plays the sound and things like that ... If someone could help me it would be great ... I like to use the Botlike announcer for everytime someone falls into death ... and some new announcer i will make that say's "Barbeque" when u step in somefire ...

Textures was mady by myself ...
Skybox was created by my Brother LanToaster ...

The Theme of this map is some kind of Oilrig on the Ground of the Ocean ...
I will place some things like crates and thislike to give it a bit detail ...

By the way i tryd this detail brushes and it worked very well ... after finishing this mapwork i will do same to docs_morph_remake so i can release the standart version soon ...

Lookin' good so far! Unfortunately, I can't advise on the sound issues, but I did want to encourage the further work on this map.

Try to open ruiner (the *.map file is inside data*.pk3), that map is using quite a few target_speaker entities, that might give you an idea what's wrong...

thanks for the tip jack ...

My mistake with the entity was the path of the filename ... I dont know why but it looks like these target_speaker entitys must have some .wav in its path ...

The File thats used is some .ogg ... so i tryd to target this soundfile with
noise sound/docs_deep_drill/fireloop.ogg

but this didn work ... after i took a look on ruiner i saw that it have to be :
noise sound/docs_deep_drill/fireloop.wav ...

now its workin ...
