Working on my first map

Postby ZoundZ » Tue Sep 25, 2007 11:17 pm

I've been trying to get started on my first map the last few days, and it'd been a hard process just to get what I need. I finally got everything(I think), and I am working on my first map. I'm using Bubbas Arena Tutorial, but I seem to have a problem. I made the map, added a player spawn point, added texture to the walls, floors and ceiling. Then I saved the map, and building it is where I got lost. I had no idea what to choose, and the tutorial didn't much help. I went to build and just chose the first option. When I tried to open the map up in Nexuiz, I ran into problems. When I start the map, I keep exploding.

To test your map, compile with the first option it should be enough. For additional effects, compile with other options. For the final release, use one of the (final) options or make your own.

When I start the map, I keep exploding.

I don't get it? :| :)

when i got started with GTK ... i found that tutorial from bubba too ... its not to bad but i think its not the best to get startet with ... much of his explanations are to specific to quake ... for example his tutorial for that lightbeam stuff ... all he's explaining there how to use some texture brought with quake ... in nexuiz most of things u need for things like that are missing ...
for that lightbeam thing for example u just need some tut how to write some shader for it to generate ur own lightbeam texture ... but thats not a real problem ... first there's some shader tutorial here in the forum ... and second if u want i can help u with that too ...

If u need u can get my ICQ number from www.gse-clan.de.tp and i could help u a bit with getting started to that thing ... it will be much easyer if u have someone u can ask if u have some problem ... so u will get better soultions ...

I would like to give u some better tut than this from bubba ... ;) but i dont know any ... so the only thing i can give u is my number so u can ask me ...

in any case when u got the basics from GTK it will be very easy to work with ...

Well, before I enter the game, you can see the player coming out, then it's like he got hit with a rocket. It happens over and over again. When you start the game, you're fine, for about 2 seconds. Then, it says xxx killed you, but there's not even anyone else in the map.

Bubbas tutorial is fine, but also gives some bad habits, that's obsolete nowadays.
ZoundZ, the exploding problem you got, I think I know the problem... it's a VIRUS! You completely need to remove nexuiz, windows, and you have to burn the hard drive 2x...

Gwehehe, don't take me serious, your problem is... TELEFRAG! Yeah, you've just got telefragged by a bot :D I think you somehow start the map with bots enabled, and giving the fact, there's only one spawn point, all of you spawn on the same place, and this causes massive telefragging, and the exploding effects :D

For MMTygrys, you've got plenty of shaders... ;) Shaders are script files, normal txt-s, renamed to .shader. They're located in the nexuiz data pk3 (pk3=renamed zip), in the /scripts/ folder. Shaders tell the compiler and the engine how to manipulate with the texture you're using the map. For making a map, you don't even need shaders, just textures (tho it'll require quite some skill not to make it ery boring that way ;) )

I remember when C.Brutail started working on a tutorial for Nexuiz mapping last year. This was after me complaining that there wasn't an official Nexuiz mapping tutorial.

The beginning of the tutorial started to look really good. What ever happened with that?
