Actually, this is not true... I'll save leileilol the work and tell you that OpenArena is fully open source too. But Nexuiz came first...

and then there was OpenQuartz... but you can't count that as a FPS :P but the monster trees were cool.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Nexuiz started off as a proprietary commercial game though. It wasn't until the final months Toddd convinced to go GPL on this.
