Important Question : The Old Doom Soundtrack ...

Postby Doc-Pyton » Tue Nov 06, 2007 11:55 pm

I found the old Doom Soundtrack, free to download.
That Download Site Told me, that i can do with that Tracks what ever i want.

Some tracks of this Soundtrack would fit really good into Nexuiz, especialy in some of my Maps.

I wrote some mail to a list of E-Mail Addresses of ID workers.
The First mail i wrote was addressed on the Licensing-Team of ID software.

But i didn get some Answer, and my requestmails were send weeks ago ...

I Dont know if its allowed to use that Soundtrack in a free game like Nexuiz.
The Game is freeware if im right. ( Im Talking about the really old Doom, Doom1, 2, 3 and that things )

So My Question here is, if anyone here knows about the use of this Soundtrack.
Would be glad if someone here knows, cause that *Beeb* ID Team wont answer me

Doom's engine has been long under GPL, but all of the content is still commercial and not freeware.

If the tracks were remixes (like Dark Side of Phobos from OCRemix) and the author put them under a different license you could do as you wish, but the actual original Doom midi files are property of iD software and not free to redistribute afaik.

As absurd as it may sound, I think that would still fall under copyright infringement.

Carmack did not make the blatantly obvious metal covers. Bobby Prince did. It's id's property though.

Don't use copyrighted music. Because i'ts in a different format than what the game used doesn't make it any less copyrighted.
