md5 character models

Postby heyok4 » Sun Nov 18, 2007 3:09 pm

hello, i've read that md5 character models can be used in nexuiz because they can be converted to psk models.

- does this mean a doom3 character model could be used in nexuiz?

- if so, can the md5anim animation file be used too?

- if the bone system in the md5mesh was similar to the ones in nexuiz, could they be renamed to match the nexuiz bones and then use nexuiz animations?

don't worry, i'm not suggesting that nexuiz take models from doom3, because i know that would be incompatible with the license. it's just that i'm interested in modelling for both doom3 and nexuiz and it would be great if one format worked for both.

Not at the moment, as Nexuiz uses .zym "self-playing" animation. The code would need quite some changes for .dpm/.psk/etc. "frame-based" animation, and I have absolutely no idea how that would work. But it would surely eat bandwidth.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
