TUTORIAL NEEDED

Postby DeVsh » Thu Dec 27, 2007 4:46 pm

I WOULD LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE BUT THER IS A PROBLEM i have no idea about making 3d games based on engines :( (made isotromic only) and would like to do anything with it making maps (that's easier becoz i tried doing them for mohaa) making textures or models i could help to do some scripting or help to expand menus (instead of using the console to modify graphic options use the graphics menu) and work on AI of the bots BUT BEFORE I COULD DO ALL OF YOUR COARSE/BOARING WORK.
the problem is i would need a complete guide through! :(:(:(:(

I KNOW SOME IS GOING TO SAY I DON'T KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO DO THOSE THINGS BUT I AM CPABLE OF LOADS (e.g. learned HTML at the age of 10 and continued untill 11 and then learning a bit of PHP ;) www.devushwebs.cba.pl)
MY MEMORY AND CAPABILITY OF LEARNING GO WELL BEYOND LEARNING HTML
(IQ 120 TO 140 [depends on the test])
I only made isotromic games, websites an unfinishe flash game!

HTML is easy :p
Caps lock is annoying...
There are tons of tutorials for mapping, texturing, and modelling, and some good ones for coding. I doubt there is anyone willing to give you a complete guide through, because it seems that you havent even tried.

Congratulations on your IQ, case in point.

There is some helpful information here to get you started:

no offense, but I think PHP is the most noobish programming language ever. Real men like to code web projects in python. Ruby and perl I've never used, so I cannot say anything about those. :D

I guess...... but I really don't like PHP... I'm just forced to write php because nobody has python installed on their servers...

Isometric is very different from 3d modeling and texturing. You need to experiment first. A lot. ;) Get yourself Blender or Milkshape. Though I recommend getting commercial 3d apps earlier on (3dsMax, Maya, Cinema4d), if you want to make this your profession.

Joining GPL game development groups however is a good way to learn more. :)

So for now, get a modeling app and learn tutorials. Doesn't matter if it's not for nexuiz yet. Just learn as much as you can.

Also take note that making game resources is very different from making movie/art resources. You need to be conscious of the number of polygons you are using since high-poly models would make it unusable ingame (the cause of most lag problems are from unoptimized 3d resources).

Anyway, good luck! :D
