I'm hoping this is easy for someone with a little experience in creating player models. I'd like to have a model that has an arrow over the head. Adding the arrow to one of the existing models would be fine. The idea is to distinguish the teacher from the students in a Nexuiz training class.
Something like this:

So much to do, so little time to do it

you would need to modify the client so that it shows the arrow as a sprite. I'd take a look at the code that shows the typing sprite for that. But you wouldn't use a model for that.

Actually you would modify the server. Search in cl_client.qc for teambubble to see how it's done.

Actually I wasn't thinking of a sprite. It seems like it would be easier if it was made part of the model itself.

If having it as a model it wouldn't be hard. Just import a model into Blender, create a cube and merge all the vertices in the bottom or the top to form a cone, and it's done. Then export it and add it to the repository. Of course, the "students" would need to have that model too. With a sprite I assume they wouldn't need to.

My understanding is that the model can be put on the server and then anyone joining will see it. Is that correct?
I haven't used Blender before. If it is easy, could someone make the model for me?

They do, unless you intentionally use the "model not found"-colored diamond. But a sprite is much smaller to download.
