Matthew Breit's maps to be released under the GPL

Postby qubodup » Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:20 pm

Matthew Breit told me that he is going to release his maps (I assume his non-release-version Quake 3 maps) in the .map file format under the GPL, as well as the textures. Here you can read the dialogue so far.

Now I know that your engine is based on the first version of Quake, but perhaps his maps can still be of use for you.

Tell me what you think and if you want to adopt/remix the maps to Nexuiz' needs as soon as they are released.

Actually Quake 3 bsp is the preferred map format for Nexuiz (the engine supports q1 & hl1 map formats as well, but some features like deluxe mapping only exist in q3bsp afaik).

If "someone" translates to "me" then I am not annoyed by this sentance =) I think he's busy with work though (read his about page). Of course I doubt there is harm in asking very non-invaisvely.

His Q3 maps should work without big changes in Nexuiz. They lack textures though... but you may find them in OpenArena.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

You can read Matt's reply by following the link in my first post, in which he says something about putting up textures. I suppose he would release them under GPL too.

great news. lunaran's maps and textures always were some of my favorites. (No wonder that he's in the industry now)
