[MAP] Gravitate [CTF]

Postby Rad Ished » Tue May 06, 2008 8:15 am

A large spacey CTF with a Portal Inspired Gravity Uplift Device Displacement Elevating Repeater.
I used a bit of the portal magic that Div put in Impossible, but went in a slightly different direction.
...
Then of course, I got completely carried away, it was supposed to be on the smaller side of large , but at least it's not on the scale of Our Mutual Friend Whose Name Must Not Be Mentioned.
...
I was really happy to make this one in quite a small amount of time (about 5 days) as I spent months on the previous one and never actually came up with anything that worked.
I used quite a few bits from Intech, including the skybox that took longer to make than the whole of this map :O

Another wacky rad_ished winning map!

Hum, well i played it on flew right over the fox or whatevs and ima thinking it needs a lot of work. Hehe some people REALLY hate my maps, there was swearing and everything.
My P.I.G.U.D.D.E.R. was the source of much fun :D

Yah I don't quite know how to fix this map, I kinda want to have the flags outside mebbe on separate islands, and i know the items need a lot of work, I do skimp a bit on item placement. Anybody whose played it , tell me whats going on, I'm lost, is there any fun in this thing? Now I have to wake up the poor cat who is fast asleep and throw him out.

Well i tried to give some hints at its problems in 'a special thread' but otherwise i like some of the layout and structural ideas you put into the map. I think its possible to turn this into a good thing after all :) And it would be a shame if not as it seems you spend a lot of time on it.

Rad! It was you!

I knew it!

Aargh, lovely map style, makes me think of ito, which is probably one of my favorite maps.

I haven't played it, but I have bumbled around in it offline with some bots. The main problem to me was that it was too hard to get to the base. Maybe it's a trick I haven't figured out.
But I'd suggest the following:
1) Make it easier to get up on the roof above the flags (jumpies or ladders or whatever), and
2) Remove the grates that prevent the players from jumping down to the flags.

The map has potential, imo.

I'm in the process of pouring on more mad and more sane in equal measure. Clueless if i open the grates up it'll make capping way too easy, won't it? Tzork suggested making them doors with a switch in another part of the map. But that would mean i would have to learn how to make doors.
The trick with the teleporters is to hit the one you want with sufficient momentum and press forward , this shoots you through the small gap in the lip and almost straight up the ramp into the base. It's easily repeatable once you figure it out. And now I've put in yet another tele so if you press backwards instead you shoot straight up out of the top of the map and if going fast enough you can attempt to get the precariously precipitously perched strength power up
I'm trying to address the points that Esteele raised with staging areas in different parts of the map. and alas more tele funk :D and also some more geometry happiness.
Also I've added some elements that create torus shaped areas cos some ctf level design tips said so. Could be good, good be just annoying, been collecting a few sounds here and there too, to go in the map.
thanks Bougo, lurks going in when i get round to it :D
