DSI map sources

Postby SavageX » Mon May 12, 2008 1:32 pm

Hello,

DSI once was an official map, which got kicked out due to the source gone missing and other problems. Personally I think it's not bad at all but needs some attention.

With div0's patches to q3map2 it is possible to decompile .bsp files and often get *good enough* .map files. I decompiled DSI, fixed problems triggering q3map2 compile problems and uploaded the reconstructed sources: http://savagex.planetnexuiz.de/dsi_converted.zip

If somebody feels like giving it some love (it's mostly fine now) go ahead and toy around with it (if GTKRadiant cannot open the .map file you need to check "Preferences" -> "Brush" -> "Use alternative texture-projection"). The lighting is mostly flat (notice the minlight setting in worldspawn) and it would be a good start for tweaking.

Just posting this in case somebody has sweet memories on this map.

mmmh. i loved the map in 1on1s :)

so div0's patch can reconstruct texture-coordinates out of the bsp ? that'd be awesome.

Oh, nice! You feel like putting it into a nice package after some tweaking? :-)

Yes, div0's patched q3map2 properly reconstructs texture-coordinates. It's using the alternative texture-projection mode, though, so you'll have to switch modes in GTKRadiant. Not really a problem IMO, but one has to know.

Main reason is that I understand the "altenate" texture projection, but not the "classic" one.

The "alternate" is just a transformation matrix... easy to understand.

By the way, the map editor "QuArK" can convert between these types.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
