I like it. It heightens player's awareness of teammate's positions, thus encouraging teamwork. With the radar we can cut down on team chat spamming too.

The Simpsons have already done it ;)

Irrc there's already a radar in work, but like someone has mentioned it, this needs CSQC (Client side Quake C) to work.
So it'll be avaible when CSQC comes enough matured...

It is implemented, and ready for use, actually.
The only "problem" was that for some time ppl kept using 2.3, which crashes when CSQC is used. In 2.4 CSQC should work fine. I tested the most important features, I hope I didn't forget anything :)

Adding a radar wouldn't really be hard, but in ONS a minimap like in the following screenshot would be better. (And if somebody comes and says that's too UT I'm gonna... well I'm just gonna ignore him :P)

That's too Windows 3.1, with a small bitmap font scaled up to mad dimensions :P

Also, Radar and Minimap are mostly the same... except for size, location on screen, and the image to be drawn below. I imagine that the same code could do both...
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

How would the minimap itself be created? Would it be a .tga file included with the map?

in this case it's an extra file with the map image, which is probably a bit hard to make though.
Also, in this screenshot the player positioning isn't 100% correct. When at the blue base, the players are a few pixels off their actual position.
Also, a file with the actual map-size is necessary to calculate the "correct" position in there. Unless there's another way to get the min and max map coords in world-space, or somebody has a better idea, and I bet div0 has, ... ^^

world.mins
world.maxs

dimensions of worldspawn... however, these are the dimensions as written by q3map2. They may sometimes be bad.

Maybe, it should only be for team mates... It's just if it's for everyone, it's not really fair in CTF when you're trying to make a sneaky attack on the enemy.
