Mapping problem

Postby Sepelio » Wed Jun 25, 2008 3:46 pm

Right I've run into a little problem with the map I'm working on and its got me somewhat stumped. Something similar to this has probably been posted before by someone, but here we go anyway.

After adding a trap into the map (which is no where near this error), I noticed this occured with one of the prisms that acts as a 'wall'

Everything looks fine in Radiant. If I remove the prism, the problem goes away. If I alter the dimensions of the prism there is no change. I also tried deleting that prism and copying another working one from the map to replace it. No change.

Any suggestions? Its not overlapping other brushes or anything so it just seems random to me.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

Very odd. I continued working on the map and started to put lighting in, and it seems to have resolved the issue.

Still, I want answers so I can fix it if it shows its ugly face again.

I have had something similar like that. Had several brushes that does indeed have a texture but when compiled and then when I start the map some faces just are gone. This, as far as I know, is random.
There's one trick where you replace that face with the texture again. Try a different texture and see if that disappears. I just slapped on the same texture and on some brushes that fixed it, while other still were stupid.

Something else, just as weird happened to me when I used 'Nodraw', 'Caulk' and a glass texture on the same brush. When compiled some brushes with this glass texture works fine while on other brushes you could just simply walk through them.

So my conclusion is that all this happens at random with weird shapes (sometimes, sometimes not, happened with some regular steps too for me) on the brushes and with weird texture/shader info. I bet it's a bug in the compilation tools or with the radiant itself.

As to have a way to fix this I cannot give one more than the one above. For now it's all trial and error.

likely two or more brushes share the same space. try selecting the troubble spot in radiant (NOT by dragselect) and moving it. theres probobly one or more more (duplicated brushes) there. this happens sometimes in radiant when you try to undo un-undoable things (like face textureing) and perhaps for some other reasons too :S

another possibility is that you dident run a full map compile after changing geometry.

<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
<Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.
