New shotgun model

Or we could take lamoot's gun as a new type of weapon. What do you think lamoot? It seems you have an idea about nuclear type thing.

First we'd need a proper weapon function, something that complements the current arsenal. After that, I can go wild with a back story about the weapon and use this model for it. So in the case the shotgun model is already done, I'll still continue with this model and put it in my portfolio. If Nexuiz finds some alternative use for it, I'll be willing to release this model under a proper licence.

Someone (ai, torus?) wanted to check the actual model to see how I make stuff. If you're still interested, I'll give you one of the previous designs to play with.

Hey, lamoot, i understand that you are disappointed because you've designed an often asked shotgun model replacement and now it comes that morphed has done the same thing too. Yet, only one weapon can be a shotgun at the same time. Now, what I mean is that your weapon current design can represent not only a shotgun but some other weapon. Therefore, I propose you to devise a new weapon (how it should work) which would use your very high quality model (it would be very sad (for me) to have it go). As an original author you should really have that chance. Then we would need to code the workings of that weapon and nexuiz would have another weapon to play with. I doubt anyone disagrees with that. Such hard work shouldn't be left and forgotten.

Yes, it is a bit of a disappointment, but since I have other uses for the model (portfolio) it's not that bad. Still, thanks for the understanding :)
Therefore, I propose you to devise a new weapon (how it should work)

I can brainstorm on this one, but some help from other weapon designers is needed. Nexuiz already has a wide variety of weapons that fill many functionality roles. It's getting harder to come up with an unique weapon, while something that is only a different combination of current functionality imo just wouldn't do. Irc is theplace to discuss this stuff.

Also, on irc, there was some interest in me finishing the model as a shotgun and offer it as a non-official replacement for those interested.

It's all still open to discussion since I haven't yet decided how exactly to proceed with this.

some gun ideas:

Shockwave - fire a wave that expands but looses power over distance. the wave pushes players and missiles (and maybe does some light damage)

some form of sustained beam weapon, lightning gun / plasma lance ...

cannonball - a slowish ball that arcs, does massive damage on direct hits and penetrate think to medium sized walls.

Some kinda bio / goo / acid ball launcher

I would go with 4th and making blobs sticky & dripping from the ceiling into the puddles on the ground. Blob + flames = ignition and fire wall (another combo),

Cannonball could be used the same way as in UT. Sec. RL fire when primary is not active.

I'm thinking of something akin to the biogun in Unreal

Primary fire launches blobs that stick to walls and ceilings. Players who touch the blobs receive damage for a short period afterwards together with a sizzling noise. The blobs evaporate (with a gassing visual effect?) and eventually disappear. Primary fire can be held to charge larger blobs. Blobs above a certain size can explode when they receive damage. Secondary fire shoots a continuous jet of slime that evaporates immediately on impact.

I like Alien's flammable blobs idea :D

To expand the idea of flammable blobs, something could be taken from 1st Postal: igniting others while still burning yourself. You shoot blob at the enemy group and hit John. Later if you hit the John with granade or any other explosion source, he ignites. If John is/comes too close to Ann, he could also ignite her, etc... So for a limited time you become a flame source unless you lose predefined amount of health, are fed with more blobs to keep you burning or die.
