You can use the middle mouse button on ALL guns, including the nexgun. Its just that noone had a better idea for the secondary button on the nex
But i for one would not like such a scope effect. Nexuiz is about fast gameplay and a scope would slow it down and also change weapon balance. Besides people hardly use zoom unless its really huge maps..

btw, cvars for crosshairs per weapon exist in 2.5

Can't do it myself right now due to the unreal life I lead. Plus from what [-z-] says there could be some better way available.

And camping rifle is meant for camping so scope would add greater effect. I wonder what's the possibility of making scope default for camping rifle.
