Low gravity zones?

Postby MirceaKitsune » Thu Apr 09, 2009 1:41 pm

I'm making a new map where I want to have low gravity in certain areas and normal gravity otherwise. From what I seen around the entities, a low gravity zone can be created by covering the area in a trigger_impulse brush and setting it accordingly, but that seems to do other things no matter what I set its keys to. Does anyone know how this can be done please?

Note: I'm not looking for a brush that attracts everything to its center, just for one that makes gravity low in that area.

I'm dead sure there is a guide for using this, try searching about in NetRadiant for it.

I think there might also have been a thread on the forum similar to this kicking around. Try using the search function and see if it turns anything up.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

Indeed i should make some sensible documentation abt how trigger:impulse works.

This is juts from memory as i cant confirm right now (no radiant / nexuiz on this box  )
Create a brush, texture with common/trigger
Create a small brush textured with common/origin centred at the first brush's bottom
select both these two, turn this into a trigger_impulse.
Add a target_position straight above the trigger impulse.
link impulse->position
Bring up the entity inspector, add a key of strength with a value 500 or so.

This is not a ideal , or even good, solution to lowgrav. What we did above is a weak wind tunnel rather then a low grav field. IT will also push projectiles etc upwards. But maybe it good enough for now.. maybe i should explain the last point a bit. strength 500 makes it push with 500 qu/s since grav is 800/s we get a final "gravity" of 300 (the trigger pushes straight upwards).

<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along

Hmm... I was hoping gravity brushes existed in which one could write the gravity as a key and anything inside that brush obeyed to it. That method sounds a bit complicated so I'd rather pass for now.

I need low gravity on my map however, so if I can't make only the areas I need low-grav I must go with making the entire map like that. Problem is I can't find any way to setup low gravity for the whole map either :(

I read in a thread from last year that the key "gravity xxx" in worldspan should do, but that doesn't work in the latest SVN. I tried both single gravity numbers and vectors, both gravity and _gravity but nothing worked. What is the worldspan key to modify gravity on the whole map? Please tell me there's still such a key, otherwise my map is half lost :(

That's the gravity cvar, but as far as I know these are never the same as worldspan flags. Will try it as well but I don't think that's correct... it will probably cause the map to activate the "low gravity" mutator until the game is restarted instead.

[EDIT] Tried sv_gravity but that has no effect either.
