Making torus and curved cylinders in Radiant

Postby MirceaKitsune » Fri Apr 10, 2009 6:51 pm

I seen Nexuiz maps which have torus brushes (such as the pipes in Aneurysm) but cannot figure out how they're created using Radiant. Does anyone know how torus and curved cylinders can be made under (net)Radiant please? I tried figuring this by myself and looking on google for weeks but couldn't find the answer...

A curved cylinder:

1. Make a cylinder by choosing Curve -> Cylinder.

2. Press V to display vertices of the cylinder.

3. In one of the 2D side views, press SHIFT and rectangle select all the top vertices (will be colored blue).

4. Go to Modify -> Arbitrary rotation and rotate 90 degrees on the Y-axis (for example).

5. Drag the vertices to the right, you can already see what's going to happen now.

6. Deselect all vertices (Escape like normal) and now select all the middle ones.

7. Again go to Modify -> Arbitrary Rotation and now choose 45 degrees on the Y-axis.

8. Bingo! You might need to finetune the shape by moving some of the vertices by hand (for example, the curved cylinder is now slightly thinner at the middle, you can drag those vertices a little outward to make up for it.

Hope this helps, if you need screenshots let me know.

Patch meshes are just G0 NURBS, any NURBS manual should be adequate.
