Alternative Radiant Menu Buttons and common textures

Postby sev » Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:34 pm

I don't like the old menu buttons of Radiant and common textures included with Nexuiz.
Complaining about something is easy, doing it better is not.
I tried it anyway

I made them for my personal use, refined them over the last few weeks/months,
and I think they are now good enough to also make them available to other mappers.
If you don't like them, don't use them :P (Or suggest how to make it better)

My alternative common textures:

(How to use: Remove the old common-spog.pk3 archive from the nexuiz/data folder, and put in this one)

Obviously, you should make backup copies of the files you are replacing.

I tried to make more use of colour coding.
The common textures are coded like this:
Red/Magenta: Clips/Bots
Yellow: Entities
Green: vis (hint, portals, ... )
Blue: No's (nodraw, nodrop, ... )
Purple: "Functions" (slick, cushion, ... )

Although I see the point of this, most users are already used to the old color scheme. I don't think I'll apply this to NetRadiant then.

As for the buttons, I'll think about it.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

These are not really intended as replacements for the old ones, but simply as alternatives for people who, like me, don't like the old ones.
I posted them here because now that I have them made, it would have been a waste to not share them.

Of course, if you want to use any of the files that would be great
I then also could further work on them. If you would make it possible to switch between different sets of bitmaps, I also could do a button set with white symbols, for the people using dark window colours.

I did not apply all the bitmaps, as you can see in svn, but most of them.

As for the others (sorry for not having a full list of the ones I didn't like, but Undo and Redo were among them, and the Refresh one), can you make these more like standard GUI controls like you find in other programs?

To some others I did small edits to make them even better (e.g. the Y letter looks ugly like that, I moved the bottom pixel to fix that, and Select Inside deletes the brush you use to select, while Select Touching does not).
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
