Trying to micromanage unit movement in an RTS is futile, units often move too far in and enter the range of another unit by a 10 pixels or so.

Then one would need to order a separate reverse move command for every single unit that is too close.

you're really not going to defend your claim to abandonment of twig? It'd be interesting to know how you got that idea.

Issues with TWIG was located on Urre's previous site revision which is no longer online, I was surprised development on TWIG continues.
