The medals look great.
I think this should be a server thing and different servers can configure different medals. Put them next to your name in the scoreboard.
As long as there is no gameplay benefit to having medals then there is no need for server authentication. If someone wants to lie about their achievements let them.
May even help in team balancing.
There should be something in single player too but who plays singleplayer anyway?

i agree there should be some REAL serious medal awards that are hard to achieve, I collected some ideas together too:

- Win a DM match without dieing. (with playing from beginning)
- Win a match with the highest nex accuracy.
- Same with mortar
- Collect more than 50 frags in a match (match not longer than 20 minutes)
- Collect 5 airshot on a match.
- Collect 5 headshot on a match.
- Make at least 15 frags in a DM match with shotgun (shotgun ftw)
- Collect at least 10 frags with a single quad rush
- Collect more than 20 quadfrags on a DM match
- Be the first in CTF in the winning team with more death than frags (for Mirio :D)
- Frag someone midair with laser
- Frag someone midair with rocket (without secondary button blowing it up)
- Kill someone with mortar from more than XY unit distance
- Frag at least 3 guys with one single electro-combo
- Frag two guys in the same time with one nexshot.
- Make a midair frag with hagar secondary (crazy :D)
- Finish a map with a kill/death ratio at least 5


Also, about ranking system, I was thinking of a cool idea: how about to make some of the neatest characters and colors unlockable? Not many, just like 5 chars and 5 colors or sth. It should depend on the players "level" wether he can choose it or not (headhunter, lurk, armored carni, fricka and quark maybe). However I orignally thought this idea would be the best to implement in the single player mode, so people will have intention to play it through :)
Ohh and also, i think from medals there just cant be enough, so maybe it should worth to create tabs under ranking, like: frag combos, skill, experience (for all-together frag amount) etc... just to keep it clean.

Oeh oeh i have another idea of how we do this with multiplayer and then you dont have to make a ranking system for all servers.

with levels.
if you have (just saying something) 10 medals you get 1 star
if you have 20 medals you get 2 stars. and so on...

like this:

Kay, you asked what if the map doesn't have quad: well... and what if the map has no nex or mortar? :P The point is that medals shouldnt be made for only CTF or DeathMatch gametype, if we put different medals for different gametypes, we can force players to try other modes too if they want to collect everything, that way it can bring back some fun to the game and raise the number of game modes currently played :) Im sure there is not a single person in the community who thinks its okey that nexuiz has like 10-15 gamemode, but only CTF, Minsta, and DM (oh yeah and Race) is played at all technically. This maybe would solve it partially. Also i wrote stuff intentionally that i dont think so is really hard to code, these are only valid for 1 match, not something like "collect 1000 frags in a week" or sth.
Okey I explain what i meant about the mortar: to kill someone from a specific distance thats greater than the limit. So make a medal for "frag someone with mortar from at least 50 metres", thats what I meant :) Thats pretty cool and hard especially due the mortars arch.
Also on the kill/death ration of 5 i mean that you kill 5 times more people at least than you die.
About that auro sourrounding the guy: i think it should be maybe a mod only, because it can be pretty annoying to have it by default, glowing guys running up and down everywhere :D
Ohh and I forgot to mention: amazing work on the logos ;) if there will be many more awards however, I would participate happily in the creation of their icons!

Okey now thats some serious idea i think, it would be EXTREMELY useful, players could see in the server browser before joining how good are the players currently playing on the server, maybe this should only depend on the alltogether frags made yet, because in most game modes the more frag you make along the time the more experienced you will become. Like 1 star until 100 frags, 2 stars until 500, 3 until 2000 etc.

Why couldnt they be stored client side? People are only breaking their own fun with modfiying the medals they earned.

maybe only if you have a strength or shield

You could also add a category for each weapon, e.g.

SHOTGUN
Bronze - 250 kills
Silver - 500 kills
Gold - 1000 kills

CAMPING RIFLE
Bronze - 100 Headshots
Silver - 250 Headshots
Gold - 500 headshots

etc, as a motivation, the weapon skins could be changed just a little bit for each medal.

Thats exactly what I recommend not to do :P To raise out the most played game modes to their own tab: why are these game modes more relevant than the others? This cant force players enough to try other modes just because there is a "special" tab. :) They can fill out most of these tabs just by playing their usual DM and CTF gametypes, the point is not to make them think: "okey now i earn all the medals in DM by playing only DM for a week". They shouldnt be able to fill out a whole tab by playing only one gametype in my opinion :)
