new weapon concept

No it wouldnt be slow if it would replace laser, actually would merge with laser: people could laserjump all over the map, while they are flying around they dont even have to change weapon to cut opponents into slices :P Would be a damn fun weapon.

Hopefully Samual will get a chance to take a swing at coding this before 2.6.

I'll start coding on it when the model is done, as I need 3 things:

#1: Model must be smaller and more compact like the laser.. ATM it's fairly large.

#2: Someone needs to export it to be an actual usable model for Nexuiz, as I personally don't know how to do this from blender.. For that matter, I don't know how to use Blender at all really.

#3: It needs a new texture, although I can probably make one if you package it like all the other models.

Replace? No, just replace the model itself and add a secondary melee attack. -- Although, perhaps i'll cvar the old model and functionality... I don't know.

So Yoda, do you want to do the changes Samual listed to your gauntlet model so that it will replace the laser, as a half-laser-half-melee weapon?

Or would you rather I make a custom model for the melee laser so yours can stay a standalone melee weapon or such?

Either way is fine, just let us know what you want to do.

To be honest, I never really liked the model. It just doesn't look good in my eyes. Too squarish/rectangular, no organic feel to it at all.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with ai, tho i like the concept idea, but it still needs a little further tuning, so it fits better into the shiny new arsenal. It's still a little too cubic thats right, and its size is damn huge.
Another idea: i know its "theft" but when it comes to cutting it could have some light effect, since it will use some sort of electric razer anyways :P
Also its damage can be a big issue (especially in DM), too huge damage encourages people to wait at a corner with this weapon while the enemy walks into it.

i was originally thinking this would be a standalone weapon, and leave the laser be, but that's not really up to me. maybe the laser can be modified into a basic weapon that does better damage, with no kick, to be used as a starting weapon, making the shotgun a pickup weapon, and this the replacement "laser jumping" weapon with a melee secondary.

and i can make the changes. i actually have some ideas for changes i can make. i'll try and have something for you as soon as I can.
