Help wanted!!!

Postby Bugmenot » Wed Jun 28, 2006 8:55 pm

I am using Gtkradiant 1.4, patched from the site admin and nexuiz, also patched with that same patch. I have two awesome concepts for maps, but in the mean time I need help figuring out how to make a map without textures, then test them with nexuiz.

PS: Please comment your every thought and give your every word of advice.
-Thank You

Ok I've figured out how to make a map, but I don't know which game map type I should save it as (ex: quake, quake II, half-life...?) If anyone wants to help please contact me at my email or AIM.

From your first post it looks like you are using gtkradiant 1.4 with my nexuiz "patch", it this if so you rely dont have any choise as to what to save it as, just save it ;) (*.map). The map saved from the file->save menu is however NOT what the engine runs. Before you can load it in-game you need to "compile" your map. this is done from the "bsp" menu in radiant.

try some of the tutorials in this thread:

if you need more help gettin started. most tuts are for quake3, but nexuiz runs quake3 bsp so thats no probs.

<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along

Just copy the compiled map (the MAPNAME.bsp file) into Nexuiz/data/maps (you might have to create that directory), then start Nexuiz, open the console with shift-escape and enter map MAPNAME to load the map.
If you later want to also have your map added to the in-game menu read Nexuiz/Docs/mapping.txt for a start.

if you did use my radiant patch theres no need to copy anything, the map will get compiled "in the right place".

How do I convert a .map file into a .bsp file?
Do I do that with GtkRadiant?
And how do I put guns and ammo into my map?

-Thanks for your help so far, I know I seem tedious with all these *noobish* questions.

Compile the *.map

Do I do that with GtkRadiant?

You can do this with GtkRadiant, yes.
Radiant uses q3map2 as a compiler to compile your *.map files.
There's also a tool called Q3Map2Toolz that i use to compile my maps.
It also uses q3map2 (THE *.map compiler of your choice ;) )

And how do I put guns and ammo into my map?

Right click in your editor window (not into the 3d view) and choose the weapon you want. Same procedure as placing health packs and other entities. If you can't find the nexuiz-related weapons you made something wrong with setting up Radiant for Nexuiz.

No problem.
Also i know that my answers are a bit short in explanation, because all these basics are well explained in tutorials all over the net.
I would suggest that you take a look at this thread:
http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=290

These tutorials are made for quake 3 but it's the same as for nexuiz.
