[MAP] Pyramid F!ght

My first map! :D

The zip contains the .bsp and .map files, along with some screenshots.
Please leave commets and suggestions! Also if you can, post this map on a (test) server. My second map (looking for modelers and textures) is gonna be a subway station.

Ps: Also anwser my poll!

Edit: If you are going to put my map on a server you need a pk3, right?
So, i made one! This is my first one and I don't know if I made it correctly (with the correct files, i only used entitys and textures from nexuiz.)

Edit2: Chose two new upload sites since the others didn't work, the ones listed now are working. And sorry about the waiting thing ("Please wait 40 seconds".) But its worth the wait!!!

I've not had a chance to test it but it looks good for a first work :) Keep it up.

For future reference, i think this should have been posted in nexuiz:editing :)

Open maps like this are very hardware heavy. Better start something smaller and well "layouted".

edit: And this looks like some terrible z-fighting. Or a very bad texture.

I did some cleaning.. i deleted your other poll (with the same text.. one is enough) but did move this thread into editing while keeping a shadow thread here so it should be visible from both forums now..

I still have to take a look at the map though.. just woke up :)

Some z-fighting here, caused by overlapping brushes. Get rid of it.

You don't really get that the jumppad is a jumppad until you get on it. Perhaps use another texture ?
Also the grates cause ugly Moiree-effects. Choose another texture here as well.


After all, not bad for a first map.
It's always good to start off with a simple box-map.
There's still much room for improvements.
Try to make some interesting geometry for your next map.
Also lighting is totally inexistent. it looks like you made a full bright compile. no shadows at all.... nowhere => doesn't look good.
And never avoid leaks by just placing a gigantic box around your map ! this won't pay off as soon as your maps get more complex.

I now had some time to look at the map. The wide open spaces indeed are a performance hit but its still playable. You should try to compile the map with -deluxe to get deluxemapping support which allows for bumpmapping in the whole level which just looks much cooler then those flat textures. The texture for the crates looks very bad. The other stuff was already said but i think this might be a nice fun map :)

Havent played it yet but I see some nice concept! I think youll provide us with some good maps in the future (good for me that is!). Listen to those above me, they all know what theyre talkin about! Some are mappers, some are VERY experienced players and I myself have been around for quite a while and tested almost every custom map so far except for the new ones but that can easily be fixed.

And this also makes things hard to see.. During my first run through the map i totaly missed the entrance into the pyramid :)

I haven't tried it, but my expressions after screenshots:

-try to place more textures on your maps, and try them to scale right.
-if I see correctly, the compile is only -meta. compile it with -vis and at least -light -fast. Will look much better. (don't forget to place lights in the pyramid where the sky can't lit the area)
-I haven't downloaded the map, but I assume you don't use detailed brushes in your map. Read some tutorials on how to place them correctly It will speed up vis, and used correctly, will speed up the whole map too ingame.

To say something REALY positive too: I like the simple concept very much, I do realy like simple maps, where you don't realy need to think to find someone to frag ;) This map looks like a perfect place for a pure fun deathmatch! :D


Good job for first, learn more and it will be very good! Kep up the work! :)

1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
