Gak Character Model - Ready for Rigging

Postby Oblivion » Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:44 pm

It's called Gak, and it's a character model.

This is the result of about 2 days worth of experimentation with Zbrush. It's only the second game model I have ever made using zbrush so still NOT quite happy with the results. Especially given how the lowpoly version looks... squished in comparison to the hipoly. Even the texture is a hacky 10-minute texture, made through Zbrush's polypaint.

But, I figure why waste it. I learned a lot making this and I do have output. No matter how bad it might look to me, It's good enough for Nexuiz I guess.

Anyway, releasing this under GPL. Don't care what you do with it. :P Hopefully someone can rig this and insert this ingame. (and while we're at it, my previous model still awaits rigging)

Model Details:

Polies: 3,794
Vertices: 1,899

Maps included :

Gak.jpg (diffuse)
Gak_gloss.jpg (specularity)
Gak_glow.jpg (self-illumination)
Gak_norm.jpg (normals)
Gak_shirt.jpg
Gak_pants.jpg

Files included:

3dsmax file
Zbrush Tool file
3ds file
Obj file (both lowpoly and hipoly)
ASE file

NOTE: Even if you're not gonna be the one who will want to rig it, PLEASE do save a local copy of it somewhere, for future usage at least, I will not upload it again. I regularly wipe my HD's too, so this can be lost easily indeed. Also apologies for different file hosting sites, omploader borked on me for the second file.

Nice! :)
First when I read the name, I thought about gagh or how its spelled, anyhow that tasty looking klingon food.

Oh and regarding hosting sites, use Box.net, its nice and haven't failed me once.
But yes, backup is a rule, not an option.

Releasing stuff under GPL is caring btw! :3

I just finished rigging the low-poly version of this. The Blender file is at http://omploader.org/vM25kaA

Thanks.

But um. I still have no idea how to insert a rigged char ingame. heh. :/ Much less how to even use blender. Does anyone know a tutorial for importing rigged chars from 3dsmax into nexuiz?

I hate sounding like a broken record, but could somebody add fullbright skins to this (real neon ones)?
