This is a skybox for the Nanpu map that I'm working on. I'm not sure what to put on the downwards face as yet, It's black at the present as you can see. The map is an urban one and irregular shaped from top view. Any ideas? Also I got this nice NASA picture of mars that i might put in somewhere, i think the NASA stuff is GPL or at least copyright free, does anybody know off the cuff where gpl stands on this?
Or I suppose more accurately where NASA stands on GPL , actually now i worked out the question i go and look for the answer.

Found it:

Some really cool pictures on the NASA site, I reckon there is a rich seam of images that could be used to make a Mars map from all the Mars Rover pictures. Although Mars is a bit barren could still be interesting.
...
This my favourite one, and evrybody elses apparently:

cool :)
Project it on a hemisphere and render your skybox in Blender or whatever app you'd like to use, and you've got a really cool skybox :)
Or use your texture in a _skybox entity on a hemispherical patch. You may want to try a higher resolution then (and compile with -patchmeta as the _skybox entity can't handle patches). Just some ideas as i'm working on some advanced skyboxes using the _skybox entity atm 8) I hope you don't mind if i give it a try as well. Then you could easily change the bottom by using different "real" skyboxes as a background.

Oh cool Strahl, i do have a better res version.
I made a pshop action that when you put this image in and press go it spits out the six faces with the right names already on them. I haven't used the skybox entity yet but have been mulling it over for some time. I looked at the blender projection solution but me and Blender have officially fallen out :?
I let it stay on my hard drive but i don't go say hello anymore.
Damn you Blender you fickle fiend
-pokes Blender directory with barge pole-
By advanced skybox do you mean more that one skybox in a map, or one with more than one layer?

hey, quick answer ;)
It would be great if you could send me the higher res picture.
Btw. What workflow do you use to produce these hemispheres ?

With "advanced" skyboxes i try to simulate moving clouds, spinning galaxies/vortexes, comets flying around. Mainly moving stuff in the far distance. I'm still experimenting what looks good. In fact all this is just stuff inside a _skybox entity (except the comets, but they don't work the way it was intended right now).
Well and your skybox looks like it would be perfect for a first serious approach :)
