Game Idea, looking for help

Postby HumanSubhuman » Sun Sep 10, 2006 7:44 pm

Basicly I could use a coder and modeler for now, and everything else would also really help. Right now this is pre develoment and just an idea, if anyone does feel like chipping in drop me a line here eli@tangibledevelopment.com

Blood Hounds
Early Concept Document
by Eli and Jake Marion

The goal of this game is to create an awesome team-based tactical FPS that is admittedly very Counter-Strike inspired but also very unique and able to stand on it's own. The first step to fulfill this idea was to think up a new game setting which people don't see everyday.

The World of Blood Hounds:

Though the gameplay will be like that of a realistic tactical shooter the universe it takes place in is completely fictional and probably doesn't even make sense at all. Basically the game puts you in an alternate Earth ruled by dogs, only tough, wolf-like dogs which can walk on two legs and wield weapons. The technology of this world is all over the place with stuff from modern times to back in World War 1 and the medieval ages, letting level design and weapons be all over the place. As in all cool games this world is a dystopian society, maybe once the picture of the socialist ideal but has now fallen completely to fascism, making a good playing field for cool sides and story.

General Stuff:

All characters are dogs, wolves, or some other medium sized four-legged animal.
All players can switch to run mode where they are on all fours, cannot use weapons, but move really fast and can melee attack. This would be awesome for jumping in and out of cover and getting to the enemy quickly.
Cool story and setting, ah la Animal Farm, Redwood, Rats of Nimh.
Counter-Strike style gameplay, but more different objectives per level, like UT assault.
No need to worry about realism, so weapons and levels may be from any era or just completely fictional.
Deployable heavy weapons.
Unique sides.
Different player classes to choose from.

Weapons:

Because Blood Hounds isn't set in any particular time or place we think it'd be cool to take the all the coolest weapons ever and put them in our game. Obviously they need to work as far as gameplay is concerned put that's all pretty straightforward. So we'll need your basic pistols, sub-machine guns, shotguns, rifles, machine guns, and snipers, but instead of just having your average CS style guns we could have the German MP40 instead of H&K UMP and World War 1 style mounted guns instead of M249 machine gun, it would all play relatively the same, just be a lot cooler.

Items:

We want to have your usual grenades and items in our game but we also want to have a lot more extreme gameplay affection items available to the player so the gameplay can change at lot throughout a match. Below is a list some cool new item ideas we had.

Gas Grenade – A poison gas grenade that leaves damaging residue in the air for a long time essentially blocking off areas of the a level.
Satchel Bomb – A large bomb which can be remote detonated useful for setting traps or clearing large rooms.
Mines – Useful for defending an area.
Heat Vision – Lets you see other players through walls and cover, obviously for balance it only works well at close ranges.
Laser Sight – A laser sight isn't really a unique idea but it's not in every tactical shooter so I thought I'd put it here, it makes you more accurate but also can get you spotted easier by the enemy.
Helmet – Absorbs the total damage from one head shot and is then useless, basically gives you an extra life in certain situations.
Medpack – Restores 25 health instantly, for balance the player should only be able to carry one.
Super Shells – Special armor piercing shells for certain guns.
Poison Shells – Continue to damage the enemy for a little bit after you've hit them, this can be cured by a medpack.
Motion Tracker – Every player has radar which only displays teammates, but this allows you to see enemies as well, giving you a huge advantage.
Scrambler – Makes you invisible both to enemy motion trackers and heat vision.
Player Decoy – An immobile decoy which looks like a player at idle stance, hopefully giving just enough jump on the enemy to kill them.

Classes:

Player classes might end up not working out to well for the game but for now it's still a thought. We don't want player classes to work like team fortress where you basically are choosing a weapon set. Instead you choose a character with different attributes like speed, health, accuracy, skill (the rate at which you can effectively fire and reload a weapon). Classes may be slightly more or less powerful depending on the team because the sides should be somewhat different.

Trooper – The basic soldier, average in all it's attributes, all the other classes are a branch off this one.
Scout – The scout is twice as fast as the trooper, has half as much health, is quick to fire and reload, and is extra accurate with weapons.
Defender – This class is the slowest of all the classes, but has extra health and can reload fire faster then any other class.
Attacker – The attacker is slightly slower then the trooper when moving normally, but is extra fast and powerful in four legs mode, allowing it to reach then enemy quickly.
There should be more classes but right now I can't think of any.

The Teams:

Blood Hounds – Once a branch of the elite Dogs of War fighting unit they became rebels against the fascist government after ordered to slaughter a small village of separatist civilians. Because of they're lesser numbers they are geared towards gorilla tactics. The Scout and Attacker classes superior to the Dogs of War opposing versions.
Dogs of War – The desertion of the Blood Hounds has left a scar on the perfect record of the most elite fighting unit in the world, now they must destroy every last one of them to regain their honor. The Dogs of War have prepared there selves for a direct combat with the enemy and have out fitted themselves to beat the enemy out in the open. There Trooper and Defender units are better then the corresponding Blood Hound versions.

Both Teams will also have specific weapons and items geared towards there particular methods of combat, for instance the Blood Hounds have Mines and Gas Grenades and the Dogs of War pack Satchel Bombs and superior heavy weaponry.
