i tihnk best way to check for cheaters (such as wall hack) would be for server admin to auto-request a screenshot, which will show what you see, taken directly form the opengl buffer? so very hard to hack i think...

also, for aimbots, perhaps auto-request a demo/recording of their play?
easier to hack i guess, but still good

by auto request, i mean server admin reckons someone is cheating, and typeins in console
"get screenshot playerwhoitihnkischeatingsname" or something
then player client gets a packet asking for a screenshot
and without the players intervention, it would send a screenshot?

prob is, there is a little space for abuse, but not too much i tihnk...

Nice idea, BUT:

For example CS 1.6!

- Servers are "VAC" secured! BUT the "noob" cheats like aimbots WILL be detecded by VAC. The "pro cheats" WILL NOT detecded by VAC! Why? Thats easy: to make a cheat you need time and "programmer skills" - you have tio know how it works, the game. THEN if you waist time on programming a good cheat, which doesnt "attack" (german "eingreifen") in the "real play", i mena.. how to say : that example: wallhack: everyone knows how a wallhack works, you can see throught walls and/ or points, that are your enemies. If you make a screen there is the SAME what YOU see on it. BUT if the programmer is intelligent, he know that fact, so he makes a little change, if you press F12 (or other hot key for screen) the wallhack will be disabled a few secondes (just 1 millisecond), the screenshot will taken and YOU will NOT see, that this person uses a wallhack. The same in demos. Everytime anyone other than you makes a demo or something else he will see the game, no hack or smething, but only you will se "your game" WITH hack.

I hope I said it right, my english isnt very good in this area xD

random rant : cheating calls.

i was there too esteel, and i couldnt work out why he was crying cheat either.

Today was similar, i got the same sort of calls. not like i was giving anyone a real beating, just lazering around and so on.

but i can empathise with some. if i recall being a n00b with online FPS games, it confounded me ppl could actually shoot on the move.
to see someone appear and a fraction later you are dead can defy logic.

now some of the air 2 air shots done every game, would appear as impossible without an Aimbot to a n00b.

one of the funniest cheat calls i saw was playing Team Q3F as the recon ( v.fast low armor +concussion grenades) model. One young guy, Sniper (rifle equivalent of Nex - one shot ur dead) kept shouting wallhack wallhack, cheat etc. he couldnt work out how i kept grenning him even from behind walls, around corners and so on.

The recon model is equipped with Radar scope. official weapon. The sniper was even a regular team player, not a n00b. just never played anything else.

Shows the mentality that "i have the biggest weapon, and should therefore win. anything else must be cheating" maybe just belongs to ppl that cant figure stuff out yet.
Usually, not exclusively tho, its youth aged 10-15 that seem the worst cry babies.

Hmm i think i have been on that server.. it used some very strange weapon settings and i think rune match.. points like this is very possible in that game mode.
You have to collect those runes and get points for holding them.. and also for fraging while holding them..
at least in the default settings. I have no idea what settings this server got.
Think noone was cheating there..

Yes I know the power ups, I used them too! But he joined during the game, the first half I was the first, then Mad Hatter overrunned me and THEN he joined. The weapon settings: Only Nex, One hit one kill.

Yes.. but creating challenges for any cheat makers, would just make it more likely that someone actually does make them. No need to escalate or aggrevate the situation, I dont think any good will come of it.
