oh, and here's a visual example of JPG's quality limits:
high-quality JPG 745 KB
max-quality JPG 1,6 MB
full-quality PNG 2,4 MB

Wrong :P

You didn't turn off chroma subsampling. When I do that:

http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/irony4m2opera.jpg - 827kB 85% JPEG after turning off chroma subsampling.
http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/irony4m2opera100.jpg - 1747kB 100% JPEG after turning off chroma subsampling (but difference checking still found minor differences)

BTW, I just committed an engine patch to turn off chroma subsampling. Now JPEG quality loss is MUCH smaller.

1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I've been trying and I think I've got a couple that look okay:

Here is the watermark I used:

When a camera is focused on a certain element in a scene, things that are farther away become less focused, or blurred. Would you like to comment on the composition of the screenshots, at all?

The composition is shitty- everything that might be interesting is blurred. The first picture is decent.

It does help to keep a defined focal, which, in case you couldn't tell, is the mega armor and the shadow, respectively. When I asked for critique, I was under the impression that you had something worthwhile to say.

Um... the first one is nice... but I don't understand why you had to make up your own watermark. I created one to match the new website. I'm trying to go for uniformity here to attract new players.

After the contest, I'll send you the .xcf files and you can do whatever branding you want, although the current watermark matches the mood of the images pretty well. Also, victim's is great.
